Client Success Story: Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church

The Bradley Hills Presbyterian Church in Bethesda came to Audio-Video Group with a common problem for churches today: how can we bring our message to our traveling or shut-in congregation members? With over 100 years of combined experience in the church sound system arena, AVG knew just what to do.

The first step was coming up with a budget- and volunteer-friendly streaming solution.

Streaming is becoming more common in churches to bring services and programs to people across the country. If members are sick, travelling, or can’t make it to the church, they can watch the service in real time via live streaming. However, the same question usually arises: who will run the system? AVG installed an easy-to-use video streaming system with two Vaddio RoboSHOT™ high definition cameras, Blackmagic Design ATEM, and a mac computer to manage all of the equipment. Livestream streaming software is used to push the content to other computers or phones and can embed the video on the church’s website. The software will even record and store content as an archive of past sermons. The equipment and streaming service is easy for volunteers to use and since the link can be embedded on the church’s website, it’s easy for congregation members to access as well.

Another problem the church brought to AVG was the acoustics in the sanctuary. With vaulted ceilings and brick interior, saying that sound was a challenge is an understatement! Using computer modeling and four Tannoy VLS loudspeakers, AVG senior design engineer Jack Covert designed a speaker system to overcome the challenges of the space. By deploying best industry practices, we were able to improve clarity, speech intelligibility, and overall performance of the sound system. The church has received numerous comments from congregation members who have attended for years, stating that they noticed an improvement in sound immediately.
