Client Success Story: Young Marines

Young Marines is an organization that strives to positively impact the lives of America’s youth through programs that nurture and develop its members. The organization teaches the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. They have chapters and membership all over the continental United States, as well as U.S. Territories. With their headquarters located in Dumfries, VA, their leadership wanted an A/V system that would connect them to their staff across the globe with simplicity and consistency. AVG was happy to step up to their challenge.

Before we stepped in, their original system produced a poor sound quality and the video technology was outdated. They lacked an adequate number of input jacks for both audio and video, as well as an insufficient quantity of wireless microphone systems. Finally, they needed more control over the system and the ability to record their meetings. The overall goal of the project was to install systems that would provide the Young Marines with quality sound and video in all designated areas of the facility.

Video System

We kicked off the project by updating their existing video system. We installed two 70” displays on the front wall of their facility, as well as a ClearTouch 65” interactive display in the back of the room for a confidence monitor. The display in the back of the room was mounted on a rolling cart so they can easily adjust the height of the display and allow for mobility and increased functionality. Their creative office staff also wanted to use the interactive display for other meetings, trainings, and planning, so they loved the mobility created by installing it on a mobile cart. Since Young Marines is a cutting-edge youth organization with chapters spread out throughout the country, they always strongly wanted to be able to stream, record, and post content on social media. We installed two Marshall Electronics high-definition, PTZ cameras to help with that and a LifeSize ICON 800 for video teleconferencing capabilities.

With video equipment like we installed, it’s important to also install a switcher/scaler to help toggle between the equipment. We chose an Extron switcher/scaler that features eight inputs and four outputs, and provides seamless transitions between each piece of equipment. To control the entire system, we installed one Extron 10” wall-mounted touch panel. We used custom buttons and clear labeling to provide intuitive response and an easier understanding of the complex control system. And by providing Young Marines with an additional Apple iPad, they can wirelessly control the system as well.

Audio System

To improve the audio system that Young Marines formerly had, we installed four ceiling loudspeakers and various wireless and desktop microphones. An Extron Crosspoint matrix switcher allows all of the speakers to be connected, and includes built-in amplification to help maintain tonal quality and speech intelligibility. We also provided them with a rolling rack that houses all of the equipment, as well as all necessary cables, connectors, and rigging equipment.

Many of our clients feel overwhelmed at the kickoff of a large project like this, but we help break the system down into smaller components and help bridge the gap between all of the various pieces. No matter how big or small your project, let’s talk about the possibilities!
